  • 1 (4.4 oz) tub black pepper Boursin cheese Or similar herbed spreadable cheese.
  • 8 slices white sandwich bread Crusts removed.
  • 1 cup thinly sliced fresh strawberries About 8-10 medium strawberries.
  • 8-12 fresh basil leaves Torn or thinly sliced.
  • Freshly ground black pepper Optional, for seasoning.

Preparation

  • In a small saucepan, combine white balsamic vinegar and granulated sugar. Bring to a gentle boil, then simmer until thickened, about 4-6 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
  • Lay out the slices of white sandwich bread. Remove crusts with a sharp knife.
  • Spread a thin layer of black pepper Boursin cheese on each slice using the back of a spoon.
  • Arrange thinly sliced strawberries over the cheese, leaving a small border. Top with torn basil leaves.
  • Drizzle a little cooled balsamic syrup over the strawberries.
  • Top with another slice of bread and gently press to set. Cut into triangles.
  • Chill for 10-15 minutes to let the drizzle set before serving.
